Chairman Ashwan, the political leader of Tagrea, viewed the first contact with SG-1 as a profound moment for his people. In sharp contrast to his military leader, Commander Kalfas, he openly cooperated in good faith and shared information with SG-1, Colonel Ronson, and the crew of the Prometheus. A public perception of Ashwan's weakness in matters of civic defense gave Kalfas an opportunity to attempt to seize power, but his attempt was unsuccessful. With the support of the Prometheus, Ashwan demanded Kalfas's surrender, opening the way for diplomatic relations with Earth.
