Cheri ran an escort service in Los Angeles. Terry's sister Lila had worked for Cheri, despite Terry begging her to get out of the business.

International assassin Piedra was known to use call girls to make his pickups, and then he would kill them. When his contact, C. W. Smith used Cheri's agency to arrange for an escort for Piedra, using the name Mr. Gray, Lila met with him, and afterward he killed her.

Terry vowed revenge for her sister's death, and she applied to work as one of Cheri's girls. Cheri was aware that Terry was Lila's sister and that she had not approved of Lila's profession, but she was not aware that Lila had been murdered. When Terry offered a little "entrance fee" to meet the last gentleman that Cheri had arranged for her sister, Cheri accepted the bribe and gave her the name of C. W. Smith to arrange another meeting.
