MARYA KARSOVA

Marya Karsova

Marya Alexandrovna Karsova was the daughter of Russian dissident Alexander Karsov. Her father had been arrested as a political prisoner and was secretly being held in a state psychiatric hospital near Leningrad. Pete Thornton was a friend of both Alexander and Marya, and when he heard of Karsov's fate, he flew to the Soviet Union to get Marya out of the country. However, she insisted on staying and working to free her father.

Marya herself was in danger of detention, and when Soviet agent Stepanov arrived at her cabin to arrest her, Pete and MacGyver helped her to escape, and together the three of them hatched a plan to free Karsov from his imprisonment.

Karsov was being held in Ward Zero, and while Pete and MacGyver portrayed doctor and patient to work from inside the hospital to locate Karsov, Marya posed as a local girl working in the dining room for the hospital staff. There she added a mild psychotropic sedative drug to the tea in the samovar. With the doors unguarded and the staff pleasantly inattentive, Alexander Karsov was free to walk out of the facility, where he was reunited with his daughter.

After his release, Karsov insisted on remaining in Russia to continue his work to change the government, but he urged his daughter to go to America for her own safety, just until things had changed, and she reluctantly agreed.
