LOPEZ

Lopez and Emilio, who were both from the same Central American country as Archbishop Fierro, were responsible for the security of the archbishop during his visit to Los Angeles.

They were aware that Piedra, an international assassin, was a threat to the archbishop, and they followed Piedra's contact, C. W. Smith, to Our Holy Father Cemetery where Smith dropped off the briefcase with payment and instructions for the hit. They were not aware that MacGyver had taken Piedra's place, so when Terry and MacGyver retrieved the briefcase, they followed, hoping to capture Piedra and prevent the assassination.

By leading Lopez's car over traffic spikes to cause flat tires, MacGyver was able to elude capture, but Emilio and Lopez where able to catch up with them at the Mayfair Hotel and take them both into custody. They brought MacGyver and Terry to St. Marcus Convent where the archbishop would be speaking and where MacGyver tried to convince Emilio that he was not the assassin he sought.

During Emilio's interrogation, Lopez met with Archbishop Fierro and with Sister Eileen Kennedy of the convent. He tried to warn them of the threat of assassination, but the archbishop reassured his loyal friend that as Lopez watched over his life, he watched over Lopez's soul, although Lopez worked much harder at his part of the bargain.

When MacGyver and Emilio learned that Piedra had escaped custody, the agents coordinated with Sister Eileen and organized their teams for a search of the grounds. Meanwhile, MacGyver took the place of Archbishop Fierro and identified Piedra, now in disguise as one of the nuns. In the ensuing struggle, Piedra was stabbed by his own poisoned dart and died, and the archbishop was able to proceed with his scheduled appearance.
